Biography

My name is Mary Bryant-Mason and I’m an American citizen. January 2025 I moved to Hermosa Beach, California, USA. I started my work life as an officer in the US Army serving in Germany for 3 years developing and training soldiers which prompted me to start my Masters Degree in Human Relations. After my obligation to serve, I completed my degree with an internship designing a training plan for crisis counselors. I was hooked on education and training so I went to work for the Department of Army in Indiana then as a contractor for the Department of Energy in Georgia when my husband was transferred. My final decades of work included starting my own consulting business and designed a training manual I published for caregivers of school-age children; as an Education Specialist for the Veterans Health Administration; and after 15 years retiring as a Supervisory Health Education Specialist for the Centers for Disease and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. My hobbies include traveling, reading, competing (Power Walking at the Senior Olympics), water exercising, volunteering to feed and serve the unhoused in Los Angeles, hiking, planning social events to draw communities together, sharing my home with those in need, and living out my faith through love and peace building.

Testimonials

Sandra, an ABVN teacher, recommended I become a teacher with ABVN so I did and offered lessons when I returned from a trip to Vietnam in October 2024. I enjoyed the students so much so eagerly offered lessons in between all my trips. I saw Sandra again briefly and she mentioned she was meeting another teacher in VN March 1 so I asked if I could tag along! It was an incredible experience-traveling from Hanoi to DaNang, Hoi An, Hue, DaLat, and HCMC to meet with ABVN staff, teachers, and previous and current students! I’ve never experienced anything like it! The staff and teachers I met are so intelligent, dedicated, caring, and fun-loving—just like the students who are also excellent hosts excited to show off their cities and countryside! I have already gained more from this program than I could ever give! I encourage native English speakers to sign up to become teachers and share in the lives and successes of these incredible students!

Focus of teaching

I want to hear what you want to be able to do by the end of 6 months in the program, what you think are your weakest areas and how I can help.
