Biography
My name is Jay Sztuk (pronounced shtuk). I am a citizen of the United States. I currently live in Annapolis Maryland, but I grew up in San Diego California. I am married, with four adult children and six grandchildren.
Before I retired, I worked as an architect. My work has taken me to many places. I served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Fiji from 1974 through 1976. I worked in California until 1992, then I moved to a small atoll in the Marshall Islands called Kwajalein. In 1998 I moved from Kwajalein to Iwakuni, Japan. In 2005 I returned to the U.S. I retired in 2018. While in Japan I helped many people improve their English language proficiency in classes at companies and English clubs. I began volunteering as an English coach for people in Ukraine in 2023.
I would like to join the ABVN community because I know that improving one's English can lead to more opportunities, and I am happy to help if I can. I hope that a small effort on my part might benefit someone else. I enjoy traveling and learning about other cultures. I think that through person-to-person interaction we learn that we have much in common, and are not different.
I enjoy traveling, music, and food. I am not a good musician, but I enjoy playing guitar and ukulele.
