Travel agents have become more of a counselor and advisor. Even the travel industry wants to avoid using the term "travel agency". They are more knowledgeable than the travel client and can book trips. Travel professionals are learning constantly and regularly travelling. They also have the ability to seek advice from other travel professionals on where they have been, what they recommend and the best way to get it done.

Expedia, Travelocity or other travel websites, you can be sure of a secure and safe experience. It's impossible to have someone watching your back when using online travel companies such as Travelocity, Expedia and other companies. You are the one responsible for making the booking and you will be on your own. You might have a flight cancellation and you need to find an alternative. They are not. A travel expert can assist you. If you have any issues regarding your trip or the room that you reserved does not meet the expectations of you, who can assist you? A travel professional will also be on the lookout for price reductions before final payment and whether a new promotion offered would be better than the one that was booked with the deposit. These are all things that can be addressed prior to final payment.

It is more expensive to Use an Travel Professional

This is often not true. Some travel professionals charge fees. But they don't all do. Certain vendors, such as hotels and airlines, don’t pay commissions. Some vendors have decreased the amount travel experts are paid. Certain travel agents charge fees to enable them to make ends met. I charge $50 for domestic flights and $100 for international. Sometimes, I charge a fee to book hotels, if I'm arranging various parts of the trip myself and occasionally $50 for domestic airline reservations. I do not charge a fee to book cruises. Whatever you choose to employ a travel agent or not one, the commission will be due to the company. Employ a travel agent to avoid the hassle and to save time.

The rules for travel are always changing. The travel professional can help their clients keep track of them.

Examples: Passports

Did you know that passports are required for flying within the United States in January of 2016? The REAL ID Act provides this law. It requires that travellers carry a REAL ID conforming ID. This includes full legal names, signatures and dates of birth, gender, unique number, principal residence address, as well as an image of the front of the applicant. Unfortunately, there are still several states that aren’t compliant. Are you aware of which states are compliant and which ones aren't? Your travel professional does. American Samoa (Louisiana), and New Hampshire are examples of non-compliant territories/states. Minnesota and New York offer an additional Enhanced ID for a fee. This implies that a significant majority of residents don't have one. While some states have submitted applications for extensions, it is not clear if they are granted. Four states, specifically Louisiana, Minnesota, New Hampshire and New York, and American Samoa, are currently technically not compliant.

We aren't sure if the 1st of January 2016, 2016 is the date of the requirement or if it will be later? The law will also impact the passport processing process for all. All the passports issued in 2006 to comply with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative that went into effect in 2007 are now expiring which has led to a flood of renewals. Because of these renewals, and the potential of real ID enforcement, passport waiting times are likely to increase. The current wait time for passports that are standard has grown by one week to four to six weeks, as for passports that are expedited,, it has increased to 3 weeks. The expedited time for a person in person can take as long as eight days based on travel need.
